A massive trade proposal has the Cleveland Cavaliers trading superstar Donovan Mitchell to a rival club in the Eastern Conference.
The four-time All-Star had a career year with the Cavs, averaging 28.3 points, 4.4 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game. Mitchell helped Cleveland lock down the No. 4 seed in the East, but they were upset by the New York Knicks in the opening round.
Mitchell hasn’t outright requested a trade, and the Cavaliers haven’t indicated that they’re willing to trade him. But what if the right offer came along for the soon-to-be 27-year-old Mitchell?
At NBA Analysis Network, James Piercey proposed a massive trade that has Cleveland sending Mitchell and Isaac Okoro to the conference rival Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie, Royce O’Neale, Dorian Finney-Smith plus 2025, 2027, 2028 and 2029 first-round picks:
“Suddenly, the Cavaliers would have optimal versatility in the frontcourt. They could trade Jarrett Allen and start Finney-Smith alongside Mobley, or stay big by interesting Finney-Smith at the 3.
Alternatively, they could lean into O’Neale’s more reliable shooting and start him at the 3. Either way, this team would go from having a lack of defensive wings to a surplus with them following this move.
Of course, they’d also be losing Donovan Mitchell. That’s why they’re landing four unprotected first-round picks. This deal could give the Cavaliers a better-fitting roster now while restocking their collection of first-round picks in the process.”
It’s hard to envision the Cavaliers trading Mitchell after just one season, especially considering how much the franchise improved following his arrival. But if the front office decides to shake things up, Piercey’s trade proposal certainly makes sense for Cleveland here.

Dinwiddie is a consistent threat for 20 points per game, so he’d be a nice return piece for Mitchell. Throw in O’Neale, Finney-Smith and the first-round draft picks, and this does feel like a fair trade on paper for both sides.
For his career, Mitchell has averaged 24.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.
