ESPN has let go some big names and that includes its top NBA game analyst Jeff Van Gundy. The Worldwide Leader in Sports parted ways with van Gundy who had been with them for 16 years. Van Gundy’s exact salary is not known, but he was making millions.
Van Gundy has to be considered among the all-time greatest NBA TV game analysts, both by the numbers and his ability.
He ends his ABC/ESPN career just shy of a hundred NBA Finals games.
According to a report from Andrew Marchand and Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post, Doris Burke, JJ Redick, and Richard Jefferson are all potential options to replace Van Gundy if they decide to take somebody from within the company.
If ESPN decides to look outside, Doc Rivers is reportedly a possibility.
“Doc Rivers could be an outside choice; especially if his salary demands are offset by what the Sixers still owe him after firing him as their coach,” Marchand and Glasspiegel wrote. “Rivers is very close with Breen.”
This offseason, Rivers was fired by the Philadelphia 76ers after the team lost in the Eastern Conference semifinals for the third time in his three seasons as head coach.

Rivers has been plagued by losing playoff series that he holds leads in. During his 23 seasons, he has coached the Sixers, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, and Orlando Magic.
Rivers has amassed an overall regular season record of 1,097-763 with 19 playoff appearances, two trips to the NBA Finals, and an NBA championship in 2008 with Boston.
