On Sunday, Noah Lyles ended America’s 20-year-long wait and won gold in a 100-meter men’s event at the Paris Olympics 2024. Devin Booker was one of a few USA men’s basketball team players who attended the Men’s 100-meter final event at the Paris Olympics. The Phoenix Suns star congratulated Lyles but still disagreed with the Olympic winner’s previous comments.
Lyles registered a narrow victory against Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson as they recorded identical times of 9.79 seconds. With this victory, the 27-year-old sprinter became the first American since Justin Gatlin in 2004 to win a gold in the men’s 100-meter event at the Olympics.
Booker congratulated Lyles after his gold-winning run, telling The Athletic’s Sam Amick, “It was crazy. I mean, it was great for America. Congrats to him.” However, Booker revealed he still disagrees with Lyles’ world champions comment on NBA players.
Fans React To Booker’s Comment After Lyles 100m Gold
Booker reflected on Noah Lyles’ August 2023 comment over NBA athletes after the American sprinter’s gold finish and claimed that “being an NBA champion is harder.”
He said, “I still don’t agree with the comment. I feel like all the best talent in the world is in the NBA, and this is coming from an Olympic gold medalist (who believes) that being an NBA champion is probably harder to do.”
Many users agreed with Booker, and one fan wrote, “That’s literally a fact. Not a belief.” Some users pointed out the Team USA factor for making it easier to win Olympic gold. Another person wrote, “It 10000% is harder to win an NBA championship than a gold medal IF you’re on Team USA.” The social media was flooded with humorous reactions after Booker’s comment.
