Detroit Pistons’ Draft Pick Sparks Concerns For Cade Cunningham’s Development
The Detroit Pistons’ decision to draft Ron Holland II with the No. 5 pick has sparked some criticism, particularly concerning how the move impacts their young star, Cade Cunningham. Recently, an anonymous league executive voiced concerns, suggesting that adding Holland might complicate things for Cunningham rather than help him develop further.
“I feel bad for Cade Cunningham. They’ve been rebuilding for years even though they never planned on it, and this pick signals they might need to blow up the roster and start over again. I just don’t see how [Holland] plays with Ausar Thompson, Jaden Ivey, and all their other young guys. That situation is a mess,” the executive said.
Holland, who has been limited in his playing time this season, is averaging just 6 points per game. Meanwhile, Cunningham is shouldering much of the offensive load with 23.2 points per game, but the team still seems to lack the support needed for him to thrive fully.
