The Detroit Pistons, led by coach J.B. Bickerstaff, are working hard to show their potential in the preseason as they prepare for the regular NBA season. The Pistons haven’t won a championship since 2004, and Bickerstaff is determined to bring the team back to its former glory. So far, they have played four preseason games, winning two and losing two.
Recently, Bickerstaff surprised fans by making changes to the team’s practice dress code, aiming to bring an “old-school mentality” to the Pistons’ practice sessions. “Don’t wear anything on your head during the game. You don’t wear jewelry. You practice how you play,” Bickerstaff said.
When asked about the changes, the Pistons coach explained the reasoning behind them to the reporters. “We don’t have a dress code. There’s just certain things—as far as jewelry and wearing hoodies and stuff like that during practice—and it’s just kind of a combination of some old-school things we grew up with to instill some discipline,” Bickerstaff said.
“We don’t make guys tuck their shirts in or wear the same outfit. We’re trying to create an environment where there is discipline but where guys get to express themselves and be who they are,” he added.
NBA Analyst Predicts Big Changes For Detroit Pistons In 2025
The Detroit Pistons are looking to bounce back after a tough season, finishing with a disappointing 14-68 record and missing the playoffs for the fifth year in a row. However, there’s newfound hope for the team as they head into the 2025 season. According to The Athletic’s John Hollinger, the Pistons might see a more promising outcome this year.
“The Pistons cleaned house after the season, after the one-year sideline reign of Monty Williams proved disastrous, and the four years of the Troy Weaver administration saw zero progress in accumulating either talent or draft capital. Former New Orleans and Brooklyn exec Trajan Langdon took over the front office, while no-nonsense J.B. Bickerstaff is the new head coach,” Hollinger said.

Hollinger’s prediction gives fans hope that the changes could lead to a much-improved record for the Pistons in 2025. How the Pistons bounce back from the disastrous season will remain to be seen.
