LeBron James, a forward for the Los Angeles Lakers who tied a career-best with nine three-pointers in Sunday’s victory against the Brooklyn Nets, believes his time in the NBA is running out.
LeBron James scored 40 points and made an almost flawless 9 of 10 from beyond the arc to help the Los Angeles Lakers defeat the Brooklyn Nets 116-104. His season high of 40 points and his all-time personal best of nine made 3-pointers were both achieved.
Following Sunday’s victory, James declared, “I’m not gonna play another 21 years, that’s for damn sure,” according to The Athletic. “But, not very long. I don’t know when that door will close as far when I’ll retire, but I don’t have much time left.”
The Lakers great, who turned 39 in December, is contracted to play for the 2024–25 season and has a $54.1 million player option. LeBron James’ current contract states that it will expire at the end of the 2024–25 season, at which point it will turn into an unrestricted free agent.

What Are LeBron James’ Plans Before Retiring?
In January 2023, LeBron James stated to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin that he intended to postpone retirement until he could continue playing alongside his son Bronny, who had just completed his first year at USC.
That was before Bronny went into cardiac arrest during a summer exercise, which forced him to postpone his USC debut in favor of emergency surgery. Mostly playing off the bench, he totaled 4.8 points and 2.1 assists in 19.3 minutes in 25 games at the end of the season.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, LeBron James’ kid has not yet determined if he will join the 2024 draft. His agent Rich Paul says it depends on which clubs are interested in picking him. It would be interesting to watch if Bronny’s draft year affects James’ decision to sign a new deal, given the uncertainty surrounding his future in the NBA.
