Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Derek Fisher is likely hoping to win a ring as an NBA head coach one day after winning five as a player. But, so far, he’s found success hard to come by on such a front.
Fisher, 48, experienced two losing seasons with the New York Knicks, getting fired, and has since coached the Los Angeles Sparks in the WNBA. He didn’t see much success there either amassing a record of 54-46 before being let go.
According to TMZ Sports, the former NBA star has been given another coaching opportunity and will take up a gig with Crespi Carmelite High School.
“Former Lakers point guard Derek Fisher is giving basketball coaching another shot … but not in the pros or college — he’s going to high school!!” TMZ’s report reads.
“The five-time NBA champion is back to planning Xs and Os after getting hired by Crespi Carmelite High School, a boys prep school in the greater Los Angeles area, officials announced Monday.”
This will mark Fisher’s third coaching job since he retired as a player he’s probably hoping to eventually work his way back into the good graces of the NBA where coaching jobs are concerned.
There’s no doubt the 48-year-old has plenty to offer. But whether that translates into success remains to be seen.
