Jamal Murray, the point guard for the Denver Nuggets, displayed outstanding skills in the last NBA season. The 27-year-old averaged 21.2 points, 6.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in 59 games during the 2023-24 regular season, helping lead the Nuggets to the playoffs with a notable victory against the Los Angeles Lakers. However, Murray’s performance declined in the conference semifinals, resulting in the Nuggets’ loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
As the new NBA preseason began, Murray continued to struggle to contribute to the team’s success. His disappointing preseason performance has led to heavy criticism from fans. Despite this, he finds it amusing that fans have already lost faith in him, as he mentioned in a postgame press conference versus the Timberwolves.
“For me, I’m ready to go. I know a lot of people have their takes. I’m not on social media, but I have stuff sent to me. So it’s always a nice reminder when people lose their faith. It’s funny,” Murray said.
Murray encountered challenges while competing for Canada in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Nonetheless, the Nuggets demonstrated their confidence in Murray by offering him a four-year, $208 million contract extension on September 7, 2024.
Brian Windhorst Believes Murray’s Health is the Key Factor for the Nuggets
Despite Murray’s struggles on the court, NBA Insider Brian Windhorst expressed confidence in the Nuggets’ point guard. During a recent episode of NBA Today, host Malika Andrews initiated a discussion about what success would look like for Murray. Windhorst responded by emphasizing that Murray’s health is the X-factor for the Nuggets and comparing him to Joel Embiid.
“Yeah, we all know that in the Eastern Conference, Joel Embiid’s health is maybe the most important X-factor in seeing how the conference is going to go. I would put Jamal Murray in that, in the Western Conference, his health is probably the most important X-factor.”
