In the defeat, Victor Wembanyama, who is currently a lock to win Rookie of the Year, added 23 points, 15 rebounds, 9 blocked shots, 8 assists, and a steal.
Victor Wembanyama was referred to as “the future of the NBA” by Denver Nuggets coach Michael Malone following the team’s victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, but the praise was rather strained. He nearly prevailed in a matchup against Nikola Jokic, who is widely regarded as the NBA’s “present” with an incredible stat line.
With 42 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal, Nikola Jokić—who appears more likely to earn a third MVP title in the previous four seasons—led his side to victory.
With 23 points, 15 rebounds, nine blocks, and eight assists in the game’s conclusion, Wembanyama led the way. If Michael Porter Jr. had missed the game-winning 3-pointer with 27.1 seconds left, the Nuggets and Spurs would have gone to overtime, giving Victor Wembanyama an additional five minutes to attempt to get the elusive quadruple-double.
Victor Wembanyama Creates History vs Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets
According to Basketball Reference’s StatHead, Victor Wembanyama became just the third player in NBA history to record such remarkable figures in a single game with his outstanding effort. Notably, he is also the only rookie to have achieved this.
Victor Wembanyama’s growth has been consistent since his first season of play. He closes the year well and carries a lot of energy going into the offseason. There is a lot of hope for his sophomore season, believing that he will return even more developed than during his stellar rookie year.

The Spurs (18-58) are not going to make the playoffs, but they are finishing the season well and showing promise that they want to continue into the next one. Hakeem Olajuwon in 1990 and Chris Webber in 1999 are the other two players who have been known to use this line or better in a game. Both of these players were, as was previously said, far farther advanced in their NBA careers than youngster Victor Wembanyama is at this point.
