In response, Kevin Durant, took offense at Schroder’s remarks and taunted him after winning the gold medal at the 2024 Olympics.
Recently, the Nets star escalated the controversy by criticizing Durant’s post on X (formerly known as Twitter). During a recent session of his Twitch stream, Schroder called Durant, who recently gave a nickname to Anthony Edwards, a weak person for trolling him, inadvertently dissing himself at the same time.
“You’re that type of a star, and you have to say something to a person like me who not even meant it to be negative. It was just what I saw from both sides. Do you know what I’m saying? I didn’t appreciate it. I don’t care, but at the end of the day, that tweet, or whatever he posted, was because of me. For me, it was never any negative stuff. I respect all of those guys, all GOATs, but to say that tells me how weak he is as a person.” Schroder said.
Schroder mentioned that his intentions about European and American teams were not hostile when making the statement. However, the 2023 FIBA World Cup MVP asserted that he respects all the greatest players of all time players but felt disrespected by Durant’s reply to his statement.

During the press conference at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Schroder explained why he thinks the European basketball style offers a significant advantage to challenge Team USA. He believes that European Basketball is not merely entertainment but rather a display of high-IQ basketball and solid coaching.
However, Durant took issue with Schroder’s statement and sparked controversy by posting it on his social media account. The 14-time NBA all-star shared a photo of the Team USA roster celebrating after winning their 5th straight gold medal with a caption that read “ENTERTAINMENT & IQ. Durant’s comment clearly indicated his dissatisfaction with Schroder’s words.
