In a season marked by ups and downs in performance, Chicago Bulls star DeMar DeRozan has shown to be a consistent asset for the squad. Zach LaVine and Lonzo Ball’s injuries have presented difficulties, but the 34-year-old has guided the team for most of the season.
With the weight of the duty on his shoulders, DeRozan played 2,984 minutes this season, far more than any other player in the NBA. Notably, this represents the highest number of minutes any player has contributed to a season in the 2020s.
In 79 games, DeMar DeRozan averaged 37.8 minutes per game in 2023–24. However, this was less than his career best. He previously played for the Toronto Raptors in 2013–14, averaging 38.2 minutes per game.
Per the NBA website, the former USC Trojan averaged 24.0 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.3 rebounds during a strong season. He did, however, miss his eighth All-Star game participation after making it to the previous two, which is more likely due to a strong East roster than a drop in play.
DeMar DeRozan to Lead the Bulls Against the Hawks in Play-In Tournament
After the 2023–24 regular season, the Chicago Bulls placed ninth in the Eastern Conference, setting themselves up for a potential play-in tournament trip to the postseason. On Wednesday, April 17, they will play the Atlanta Hawks at home in the United Center.
If they prevail in that contest, they will play the victor of the other play-in game between the Miami Heat and the Philadelphia 76ers for the last Eastern Conference playoff slot.
