This offseason, former Chicago Bulls star DeMar DeRozan made a significant move by joining the Sacramento Kings. The NBA team sealed a sign-and-trade deal with the Bulls and San Antonio Spurs to bring DeRozan to Sacramento.
Despite offers from several other teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Miami Heat, DeRozan chose to sign with the Kings. On the latest episode of “Podcast P with Paul George,” DeRozan shared his reasoning behind the decision.
“Everybody knew I’m in a place where I just want to win, so from there I just let the cards play out in a way to where, ‘All right, let me see what landscape or what is going to win, and where I can be a part of that and help with that,’” he said.
DeRozan’s decision to join the Kings came with a three-year contract worth $76.7 million, including $3 million in potential bonuses.
“Sac came about, and they were showing interest. Like, real interest. So when I sat back and looked at it and analyzed the team: great players, great coach. I just remember the last couple of years always seeing them lighting this damn beam and winning,” he added.
