DeMar DeRozan offered a great story about former Los Angeles Lakers guard/forward Kobe Bryant.
Bryant apparently wasn’t happy that DeRozan, then a Toronto Raptor, swapped out his usual Kobes for Jordan 10s when playing the Lakers.
DeRozan stated that his entire career he had always worn Kobes but didn’t want to sport them when he was actually facing Bryant.
Kobe took notice of that when DeRozan stepped out on the court.
His Mamba mentality kicked in during that game and it eventually led to a game-winning shot and a message.
Previously in the podcast, DeRozan revealed, “It was a time I played against Vince Carter. Early in my career, he was like, ‘Man you wear those when you play vs Kobe?’”
“I was like, ‘Fu-k it, I ain’t wearing ’em next time I play Kobe.’”

DeRozan shared in the podcast, “We walked out on the court and he looked at me and said, ‘The f— you got on your feet’. He shook his head at me. End up killing us.”
The Chicago Bulls forward added, “He ended up tearing our ass up. I remember he hit the game-winning shot. But before the game-winning shot, they called a timeout. He walked past and said, ‘you know y’all left me too much time, right?’ Walking off the court he says ‘Don’t wear them shits ever again.’”
Bryant retired at the conclusion of the 2015-16 season after a 20-year career spent entirely with the Lakers.
Bryant was named an All-Star on 18 occasions, won five NBA championships, reeled in two NBA Finals MVP awards, and was named the regular-season MVP in 2007-08. Kobe and his daughter, Gianna, tragically passed away in January 2020 in a helicopter accident.
