DeMar DeRozan has great hopes for his next squad. During his Wednesday interview on ESPN’s ‘First Take,’ the Sacramento Kings playmaker was asked what his boldest NBA prediction for the next season was. He stated that his team would make it to the Western Conference Finals.
The Western Conference improves with every passing season. The Sacramento Kings are one of the clubs that made improvements, signing DeMar DeRozan in the summer. Bulls GM Mike Budenholzer recently revealed why the team traded their superstar. The three-time All-NBA guard is confident he can advance the Kings into a higher division.
DeRozan said, “Being able to play with a guy like De’Aaron Fox and Sabonis, with the year that they had before. Even last year before injuries, they were a top team in the conference. I felt like I could be that piece to take them over the top,”
He added, “I wanted a challenge. I feel like when you take on a challenge, it brings the best out of you every single night. Playing in the Western Conference before it brings the best out of you. I wanted that challenge,”
Sacramento’s 2023–24 season was miserable, as they missed the playoffs. They were among the top three teams in the West during the 2022–2023 season.
DeMar DeRozan Speaks About His Potential Return To Gregg Popovich’s Spurs

DeRozan said, “Yeah, just shows the character of not just Pop, but the whole Spurs organization. Everything about that place — it’s hard to even find words to put it into detail. They treated me like I was Tim Duncan. It meant a lot, on and off the court. That’s what makes it so special, and that’s why I had to have him do the foreword for the book.”
DeRozan, who joined the Spurs for three seasons between 2018 and 2021 after being acquired from the Toronto Raptors in a significant trade for Kawhi Leonard, has nothing but praise for Popovich’s coaching style. However, he has already shown great optimism about the Kings and said his new club will qualify for the WCF in 2025.
