D’Angelo Russell never wanted to leave the Lakers, but that’s exactly what happened when Magic Johnson traded him and confirmed earlier this month that he did so after Russell infamously recorded teammate Young talking about cheating on his then-fiancee Iggy Azalea:
“I knew we had to get him out.”
Neither Magic nor Swaggy P or with the Lakers, with both technically being out of the league currently.
Russell now has the option to return and apparently has interest, especially because Johnson is no longer running the basketball operations of the Lakers, according to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report.
Russell’s breakup with the Lakers wasn’t pretty, but it’s difficult to hold grudges in this league. With Johnson gone, some close to Russell have indicated he may be open to the idea if Brooklyn isn’t in the picture.
With Russell getting better as a player, he can definitely fill a need for the Lakers at point guard and also gives LeBron James another perimeter player who can get points on the board.
