The Lakers lost their matchup against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday but their players broke a few records that night. LeBron James set a historic record by achieving the 40K career points mark. Meanwhile, D’Angelo Russell entered the elite list of the Lakers franchise.
D’Angelo Russell has been a consistent player for the Lakers in the second half of the season. He proved his worth amid all the trade rumors surrounding him during the NBA trade deadline. Recently, an NBA analyst broke down his importance for the Lakers on his show.
D’Angelo Russell finds himself in elite company
Los Angeles Lakers D’Angelo Russell has now entered the elite club of the franchise. He accomplished this feat in the match against the Denver Nuggets. D’Lo has made it to the top ten list of the most 3-pointers made by Lakers players. He has been a consistent three-point shooter for the Lakers this season and was expected to achieve this feat sooner or later this season.
The Lakers’ 3-point list is dominated by the late NBA icon Kobe Bryant. Following Kobe are Derek Fisher, LeBron James, Nick Van Exel, Byron Scott, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Kuzma, Eddie Jones, Rick Fox, and D’Angelo Russell. It is a great achievement for Russell to be proud of and everyone looks forward to more of his involvement and contribution to the team’s success.
Analyst breaks down D’Angelo’s value to Lakers
NBA analyst Colin Cowherd recently gave his analysis on D’Angelo Russell and his game for the Lakers. He smartly explained the importance of D’Lo to the team and the value he brings to the table. Colin even argued that the Lakers have a shot at being championship contenders if they play their cards right. All they need to do is properly utilize the talent on their roster and it will be easier for them to win games.

“I have said it before, D’Angelo Russell is strangely valuable to the team. If he gives you 20 points and six assists per night, and that is what the ceiling is, I think that this team can take on the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals (in) seven games. But he is all over the map. In the playoffs, he shrinks quickly,” said Cowherd.
He highlighted that if D’Lo is able to produce a consistent performance in every game and doesn’t drop his form in post-season games, the Lakers have a shot at standing up to the Nuggets and possibly winning the championship.
“If D’Lo was a predictable 3 (and) Austin Reaves was an excellent 4, that’s a championship team. I’d have the best defender, the best leader-scorer at any given night, an excellent scorer at 4, and D’Lo at 3,” he added.
