According to the recent reports by the NBA insider and analyst for ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski, UConn coach Dan Hurley intends to decide what to do with his future on Monday. Wojnarowski noted that the Los Angeles Lakers presented a “compelling case” and offered a “compelling vision” for him to become the team’s head coach. However, Hurley is still thinking about the decision and mentioned his love for the two-time defending national champions UConn.
“UConn coach Dan Hurley plans to make a decision on his future Monday, he tells ESPN. Lakers made a “compelling case” for him in LA, but he loves what he’s built with the two-time defending national champions and is weighing it all now.” Wojnarowski wrote in his recent post on X (Formerly known as Twitter).
After the Lakers were eliminated early from the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets in the first-round series, the Lakers fired all of their coaching staff, including head coach Darvin Ham. From that point on, the team began searching for a potential candidate who could lead the team to tremendous success in the next season.
Dan Hurley had done the interview with the Lakers on Friday
Wojnarowski conducted the interview with Hurley over the phone on Sunday, following Hurley’s interview with the Lakers on Friday. During that interview, Hurley shared his experience of the interview with the Lakers and mentioned that he was highly impressed by the Lakers owner Jeanie Buss and General Manager Rob Pelinka.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been rumored to have multiple candidates for the head coaching position, including JJ Redick and James Borrego. Initially, as per the Athletic’s NBA insider Shams Charania, there were rumors that Redick was the frontrunner for the position. However, after confirmation from Hurley, all the rumors have been cleared.
During a recent episode of First Take, Stephen A. Smith, host of the show, praised Hurley but also suggested that Darvin Ham could have done a better job than Hurley

If Hurley decides to stay with his current team, UConn, it will be interesting to see who the Lakers will consider for their vacancy.
