A massive trade proposal has a surprise Eastern Conference team landing Portland Trail Blazers’ All-Star point guard Damian Lillard.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Lillard requested a trade from the only NBA team he’s ever played for. It has also been widely stated that the future Hall of Famer is adamant about playing for the Miami Heat.
But the Heat and Trail Blazers have yet to reach an agreement on a trade, thus giving other clubs a window of opportunity to acquire Lillard. Could one of Miami’s conference rivals make a play for Lillard?
At NBA Analysis Network, James Piercey proposed the idea of the Toronto Raptors acquiring the perennial All-Star:
“Why would they trade for Lillard? Well, the Raptors need to replace Fred VanVleet. Let’s start there.
Of course, most would expect them to replace him with a younger player. The Raptors are widely expected to trade Pascal Siakam and rebuild around Scottie Barnes. Do they absolutely have to do that? No.
For a long time, the Blazers were rumored to be looking to acquire Siakam to pair with Lillard. Could the Raptors be interested in the same arrangement?
The Raptors are four years removed from the franchise’s first ever NBA Championship. However, they have won just a single playoff series since, and the club has missed out on the postseason in two of the last three years.

Adding an all-world player like Lillard would go a long way in helping Toronto reemerge as a contender in the Eastern Conference. But of course, it remains to be seen if Masai Ujiri and company would be willing to give up a hefty price for Lillard.
