All-Star NBA point guard Damian Lilard is starting a new life in Milwaukee following a trade to the Bucks, but things are also changing for him on a personal front as it’s been announced that he’s filed for divorce from his wife Kay’La.
According to KATU News, Lillard is looking to end the union due to what he describes as “irreconcilable differences” which resulted in the “irremediable breakdown of their marriage.”
The former Portland Trail Blazers star has three children with Kay’La, whom he married in 2021. But they’re reported to be living in different homes, which has been the case since 2022.
The guard has steered clear of speaking about his personal life since the move to Milwaukee but engaged reporters during Media Day this week and discussed his title aspirations.
“We have a legit chance to do something great here,” he declared. “And I’m excited for what the future holds. But we got to take it a step at a time. We haven’t won anything. There’s going to be a lot of hype around us, but we haven’t done anything.
“We haven’t even played a game yet. We haven’t even played together in practice yet. So, we can talk about it all day, but at the end of the day, our actions speak louder than words. But we have an opportunity to do something great. And that’s exciting for me.”
Lillard, 33, was keen on moving to the Miami Heat this year, having demanded a trade from Portland after the NBA Draft. It was expected that he would be pairing up with Jimmy Butler in South Beach, however, the Blazers opted to deal with the Bucks instead.
