Ben Simmons is coming off one of his toughest seasons yet with the Brooklyn Nets. After a string of injuries hampered his performance, his time with the team has been far from what fans expected. Once a promising star, Simmons has struggled to find his footing on the court, and the criticisms are piling up.
Though Simmons seems determined to prove his doubters wrong, not everyone is convinced. Recently, former NBA player Patrick Beverley voiced his skepticism in no uncertain terms. On The Pat Bev Podcast, Beverley issued a harsh challenge to Simmons.
“Ain’t nobody trying to hear that s**t… You gotta show us, buddy, and you gotta show us for at least 60-something games. No more talking, no videos on the court; I need to see it,” Beverly said.
The former NBA star didn’t stop there. He added that Simmons would need to face the pressure head-on.
“They must be booing you, corny a** n**** man. You got to show me, buddy. When he plays, he is hooping. He just gotta play, and he can’t be ducking that smoke… If the lights get big, you gotta get big with the light,” he added.

Beverley recently took aim at Simmons, but many fans were quick to defend the Nets star. Some felt that Beverley’s attack was unwarranted, accusing him of targeting Simmons because of his own struggles to secure an NBA contract, which has reportedly led him to focus on the Israeli League instead.
After playing 12 seasons for seven different teams, Beverley’s career stats show he averaged just 8.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. His last NBA appearances were during the 2023–24 season with the Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks.
Fans pointed to Beverley’s own lackluster performance as a reason why his criticism of Simmons didn’t sit well with them. They called it an unfair attack from someone whose own career has had its challenges.
The Nets will kick off the season against the Los Angeles Clippers, and Simmons will get a chance to respond to Beverly with a comeback performance.
