Back in 2017, an artist by the name of Fabian Williams created a mural of Colin Kaepernick standing next to Muhammad Ali on the side of an abandoned building on the corner of Fair Street and Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard wearing an Atlanta Falcons jersey.
The mural stayed there untouched for almost two years until just days before the Super Bowl when Fabian drove by and saw that it was being torn down with no explanation as to why.
Via AJC:
“I just happened to be driving by when they were doing it and it took a minute for me to mentally recognize that it was happening,” Williams said. “Symbols matter man. You destroyed the whole building it was on? If I were an interpreter of performance art, what message would you take from that?”
“I figured at some point they would tear the building down, but it has been sitting up this whole time,” Williams said. “The fact that the Super Bowl happens here and the weekend when the festivities are getting up, the building gets demolished is very odd.”

Williams, however, is not letting this moment deter him. He moved on to paint another Kaepernick mural on a wall on Peeples Street.
