After much speculation, nine-time NBA All-Star Paul George has finally accepted the offer from the Philadelphia 76ers. However, George had been rumored to be in talks with multiple teams. After entering free agency, he was approached by several teams, including the Golden State Warriors. On a recent episode of the Podcast P with Paul George, George revealed shocking details about the trade drama with the Warriors. He mentioned that a deal with the Warriors was close to being finalized, and they had expressed a strong desire to have him on their team, highlighting how well he would fit in with their star players.
“That was a real thing that was close to being done. That deal was close to being done from what I was being told about the situation; they were expressing just how much they wanted me there and how I could have fit in perfectly with Draymond [Green] and Steph [Curry]. Klay [Thompson] probably would’ve stayed. [Brandin] Podziemski, [Jonathan] Kuminga, [Andrew] Wiggins. They didn’t know how or what package was going to be there to trade for me…[Kevon] Looney was going to be there, and so it was very intriguing, and it was still an opportunity to stay close to home, stay on the West Coast, and it was a win-win.” George said.
George Hails Warriors’ Star as Basketball Unicorn
George praised the Warriors’ star player Stephen Curry and the 76ers’ forward Joel Embiid, referring to them as “unicorns.” The six-time member of the All-NBA Team expressed his desire for the Warriors deal and mentioned that he was looking forward to it if it happened.
“I think Steph is a unicorn, one of one player, and Joel is a unicorn…So it was kind of like a good situation to be in the middle of, but ultimately, the deal didn’t go through. I think the Clippers didn’t want a certain trade deal that the Warriors were willing to give, and yeah, it just didn’t happen, but it was close. It’d been dope, man. I was looking forward to it if it happened.” George added.
George, also known as PG-13, played for the Los Angeles Clippers from 2019 to 2024 and delivered numerous outstanding performances for the team. According to StatMuse, he averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 74 games during the 2023-24 season. He was selected to play in his ninth All-Star game.
According to George’s statement during the podcast, it is clear that the four-time member of the NBA All-Defensive Team himself had interest in playing for the Warriors. In addition to PG-13’s statement, Draymond Green also gave his opinion on the shocking reason behind the failed Paul George trade to the Warriors.
