After missing 34 regular-season games, Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard made his much-anticipated return to the court last Saturday against the Atlanta Hawks. However, just two games into his comeback, Leonard has once again stepped away from the team, and this time for reasons unrelated to injury.
The devastating wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles have forced thousands of residents to evacuate their homes. Leonard, whose family was affected by these evacuations, has taken a break from the Clippers to be with his loved ones during this challenging time. NBA insider Chris Haynes shared the news on X.
“Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard is stepping away from the team, sources told me. He is going to tend to family in the L.A. area who were forced to evacuate due to the wildfires that are going on over there,” Haynes said.

As a result, Leonard missed the Clippers’ game against the Denver Nuggets. At this point, it remains unclear when the star forward will rejoin the team.
Ty Lue Backs Kawhi Leonard’s Decision To Step Away Amid Crisis
Kawhi Leonard has received full support from Los Angeles Clippers head coach Ty Lue after deciding to miss the team’s game against the Denver Nuggets. Ty Lue expressed his complete approval of Leonard’s decision.
“That’s the most important thing, like I said: family, friends, and, you know, loved ones. You definitely have to take care of home. So, totally had my support 100%. Going back, checking on his family and kids, and making sure they’re well. And he got back, and they’re doing okay. So just happy and thankful for that,” Lue said.
