The Los Angeles Clippers Guard Amir Coffey has been charged with two misdemeanor gun charges following a summer arrest.
Coffey, 26, was charged by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office on one count of carrying a loaded firearm and one of carrying a concealed firearm. This incident took place after a traffic stop on July 30th, where Coffey was pulled over for speeding and noted a strong smell of marijuana. Upon searching his car, police found a loaded gun that Coffey claimed was his. Coffey has yet to make a public statement on the situation, as he is due in court this month.
Though the NBA hasn’t made a public statement yet, they were made aware of his initial arrest and are investigation. The league has taken a strong anti-gun stance over the years and Coffey’s arrest will lead to a likely suspension. The Los Angeles Clippers have not made a public statement as of this writing.
With training camp set to begin on September 27th, there is no word to how this will affect his standing on the team.
