Last week, the Golden State Warriors completed a blockbuster trade with the Washington Wizards that brought All-Star guard Chris Paul to the Bay Area.
Paul had just been acquired by the Wizards from Phoenix in another trade that sent Bradley Beal to the Suns. The Warriors landed the future Hall of Famer from Washington in exchange for Jordan Poole and daft picks.
But is it possible that the Warriors follow the Wizards’ footsteps and end up flipping Paul over to another team for another impact player?
During a recent edition of the “East Coast Bias” podcast, John House interestingly speculated that CP3 may not end up playing for the Warriors at all in 2022-23 (h/t Hunter Hodies of The Spun):
“I’m still skeptical about whether or not Chris Paul is on this team come October the 12th, 13th, or whenever the season starts. He could make a huge difference on a bunch of teams. I mean, I think he would be amazing on Miami. I think he could be incredible potentially in Boston. There are teams out there that Chris Paul can definitely help.”
The odds of the Warriors getting equal value in return on Paul are rather low. On one hand, he’s no longer a true superstar and is about to enter his age-38 season. But on the other hand, he’ll be a valuable playmaker and complement to all-world point guard Stephen Curry.

As well, Paul fits the Warriors’ timeline as a team strictly in win-now mode. Curry and Klay Thompson will be 36 and 34 years of age next year, respectively. The Dubs simply shouldn’t be interested in young assets should they decide to trade Paul.
At any rate, the odds are very high that CP3 at least opens the 2023-24 campaign with the championship-hopeful Warriors.
