Basketball fans have heard many stories about NBA legends Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen being relatively cheap when it came to tipping in day-to-day life.
According to another Basketball Hall of Famer in Charles Barkley, Jordan and Pippen were indeed the cheapest of all NBA players at the time. Barkley shared a line from Jordan while also mentioning Pippen’s infamous “No Tippin’ Pippen” nickname.
A video of Barkley making the comments during an interview with Conan O’Brien back in 2014 has resurfaced. Here’s what he said on the cheapness of Jordan and Pippen (h/t Fadeaway World):
“There’s nobody cheaper than Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan. Oh yeah, (Jordan is) cheap. I always give homeless people money and he will always slap my hand (and tell me), ‘If they can ask you for spare change, they can say, ‘Welcome to McDonald’s, can I help you, please?’
“Scottie Pippen is known as a terrible tipper. He has a secret nickname around the Chicagoland area, ‘No Tippin Pippen.'”
As you can tell in the video of Barkley speaking to O’Brien, the former himself has a reputation for being a very generous tipper. Barkley explained that he’s even tipped $25,000 before.
