Jaylen Brown has called on the NBA to investigate a team of officials following a controversial no-call that likely cost the Boston Celtics a win.
The Celtics were tied at 131 with the Indiana Pacers in the final moments of their Monday night clash when Buddy Hield was called for a foul on Brown with three seconds to go. The Pacers shooting guard struck Brown in the back of the head while the latter was going up for a jump shot.
The Pacers challenged the call. It was surprisingly overturned and Bennedict Mathurin would get a foul call with 0.6 seconds left before scoring two free throws to hand the Pacers a 133-131 win.
The video above shows Brown getting hit in the head on the play in question and the refs had to have seen that while reviewing for the challenge, but they decided it wasn’t a foul.
“It doesn’t make any sense to me,” the Celtics star said after the game. “I went up and asked [the ref] ‘Did I get hit in the head?’ and he looks at me straight in the face and says, ‘No, you didn’t get hit in the head…’
“That cost our team the game and you expect us not to be frustrated. We’re trying to build great habits, we’re trying to win as many games as possible, and we just dropped one because of that. I feel like we’ve got the right to be upset and the league should understand.
“Of course, we’re going to say something about it after the game, so I don’t think there should be any fines, but I definitely think that one should be investigated.”

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said he spoke to Hield, who confirmed he hit Brown in the head.
The sad thing about this is Brown is likely to get fined for his comments while the refs are unlikely to face any sort of punishment. That’s just how things work in the NBA.
