Unlike most years, NBA teams are finally start to crack down on unruly fans who pay a bunch of money just to be racist toward a person of color while they cheer on other people of color on their own team.
On Thursday, the Boston Celtics somewhat made a statement when they banned a Celtics fan for two years from attending games at TD Garden through the end of the 2019-20 season for directing a racial slur at Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins.
Per Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, a fan called Cousins the N-word during the Warriors’ Jan. 26 game in Boston:
Earlier this season, the Utah Jazz dropped the gauntlet when they banned a fan for life for telling Oklahoma City Thunder star point guard Russell Westbrook, “Get on your knees like you are used to.”
A video from 2018 also surfaced showing another Jazz fan referring to Westbrook as “boy,” and that fan was identified and banned for life as well.
