Earlier this week, the Cleveland Cavaliers reaffirmed their commitment to retaining former All-Star Darius Garland. Meanwhile, recent reports have clarified that the Cavaliers are not considering trading their star player.
According to NBA Insider Michael Scotto, the Cavaliers have made it clear to other teams that Garland is not on the trading block.
“Cleveland has continued to tell teams they’re not trying to move Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto said.
Scotto also mentioned that while there has been some speculation about the Cavaliers’ interest in trading for Brandon Ingram, the team is not keen on the idea.
“There’s been some chatter about whether Cleveland would have interest in Brandon Ingram, but I’ve gotten the sense from talking to league sources that Cleveland isn’t enthralled with the idea of trading for him and then having to pay him a ton of money after his contract season,” he added.
The Cavaliers’ decision to keep Garland proves their satisfaction with his performance. During the 2023–24 NBA season, the Cavaliers’ 24-year-old point guard averaged 18.0 points per game, along with 6.5 assists and 2.7 rebounds.

Brian Windhorst Validates Cavaliers’ Retention of Darius Garland
The Cleveland Cavaliers are in a transition phase after parting ways with head coach J.B. Bickerstaff after their second-round playoff exit. This shift has led to various speculations about potential changes within the team, especially concerning key players. However, Darius Garland will remain with the team through the offseason.
ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst recently reinforced this sentiment. According to Windhorst, the Cavaliers have communicated to other teams in the league that Garland will not be available for trades this offseason.
“There are now teams that are sort of backing off, saying, well, maybe Garland is not gonna be available,” Windhorst said.
Garland’s skill set and potential make him a valuable player. Till now, it seems the Cavaliers are keen on building their future around him.
