The Lakers have finally decided on the successor of Darvin Ham and, as reports claimed, it is JJ Redick. After being the frontrunner for the majority of the hiring process, Redick is set to tip off his coaching career with an institute like the Lakers. But for former NFL star-turned-analyst Emmanuel Acho, this is nothing but ridiculous.
During the latest episode of Speak on FS1, Acho ripped into the Lakers over the JJ Redick hiring. “I can no longer take the Lakers seriously. Not only can I not take the Lakers seriously, I am upset with this decision. In life, we’ve been taught that hard work pays off. You are just getting hired because your friend [LeBron James] is there. JJ Redick has never coached before at any level,” Acho ranted.
During the drawn-out selection process, more experienced candidates like James Borrego, San Cassell, and Dan Hurley were considered. However, the Lakers took their time to fixate on the former Magic guard, and this did not sit well with Acho. He compared Redick’s hiring to that of Steve Nash with the Nets, which ended up being a disaster.
Redick is locked in with the Lakers on a four-year contract, and, according to reports, the franchise has now turned toward an aggressive approach to recruiting players. The major name linked to a move to LA already had his say on the HC selection.
Lakers to Potentially Target Trae Young for JJ Redick’s Success
After the Lakers announced the signing of JJ Redick, the Hawks guard Trae Young posted a cryptic message on social media. He left an emoji on an hourglass on his X(formerly known as Twitter) post, sparking rumors of a potential switch to the Lakers.

Trae Young has been previously linked with the Lakers for a trade, and now that JJ Redick is in charge, the Lakers might push for the deal to finally happen. Apart from Young, his Hawks teammate Dejounte Murray is also on the radar for the Gold and Purple brigades.
The talented point guard duo never gelled together in Atlanta, and the franchise might consider making genuine offers for them. Anyone of the two can work wonders for the Lakers, as the team lacks a 3-point shooter. Young’s playmaking also rids LeBron of the burden of getting on the ball more. Trae Young could be a dream signing for a former point guard of JJ Redick’s caliber, and if the trade happens, it could go a long way for the Lakers.
