Cameron Johnson seems to have moved on from the grief of losing his long-time teammate Mikal Bridges to the NY Knicks. His only focus right now is to help the Brooklyn Nets bounce back in the league. The combo guard figured out the only way to do it was to get his teammate Ben Simmons back in full fitness.
During his recent conversation with Michael A. Scotto, Cameron Johnson stated, “We get a healthy Ben (Simmons) back, and with the stuff we were able to do with him in the lineup last year, I think there’s a lot of potential.”
In his two seasons with the Nets, Simmons missed a chunk of games due to a string of injuries and mental health issues, leading to analysts’ criticism. His appearance in 57 games proves he cannot be completely dependent on. However, Johnson is optimistic that the Nets could showcase their true potential with the Australians on the team.
Brooklyn Nets’ Cameron Johnson Stays Committed Amid Trade Rumors
The Brooklyn Nets are currently in the early stage of their rebuilding process after the blockbuster trade that sent Bridges to the Knicks. Since they traded Mikal Bridges, trade rumors have also swirled around Cameron Johnson. According to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, the Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly interested in signing Cam Johnson or Dorian Finney-Smith from the Nets.
In his second season with the Nets, the 28-year-old saw a decline in his numbers. He fell from 16.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game to 13.4 points and 4.3 rebounds. While Brooklyn’s struggles last season played a role, Johnson’s future with the franchise seems bleak given this decline.
Nobody knows the future, but Cameron Johnson will give his best if he continues with the team. He said, “I think we have a pretty good group in Brooklyn that we can start to grow something. If I’m staying in Brooklyn, then I’m all in, excited to play, and excited to grow this group.”
