Brooklyn Nets youngster Day’Ron Sharpe, one of the NBA’s most underrated big men, is set to achieve greatness in the upcoming season. The 6-foot-9 versatile post player recently revealed an exclusive method for learning about the league, players’ offense and defense patterns, and playing styles.
The 29th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Sharpe, averaged all career-highs last season, with 6.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 0.7 blocks on 57% shooting from the field in just 15.1 minutes per game.
The 22-year-old Nets center recently appeared on an episode of ‘Inside Buzz’ and talked about his career and his plans for his fourth year. During the discussion, host Mikey Domagala asked Sharper about the NBA Big Men he followed growing up.
Day’Ron Sharpe revealed his experience from playing against the stars in NBA 2K to playing against them in the NBA. He said, “I’ll be completely honest with you, bro, I really ain’t study my game after nobody… My football coach started the AAU team. He was like, ‘Come to the AAU team and play.’ At the Girls and Boys Club, either you are in the gaming room playing little games like foosball, pool, and table tennis, or you are in the gym playing basketball and stuff. So I just be in the gym all the time.”
He added, “I used to play a lot of 2k, I watched a lot of 2k, and I learned facts playing 2k. Facts about the NBA, or I learned what this player do the most… I am in the gym all year at the Boys and Girls Club. (When) I was eight or nine years old. I was playing against the 15-16-year-old guys. For all my elementary school life, I was playing against guys older than me.”

As Sharpe revealed he was a football player first, he was asked about his future in the NFL if he continued playing football. The Nets star said, “For sure, I would have gone to the NFL. I would have been a DN (Defensive End) for sure.”

While asked about his ambition for the upcoming season, Sharpe claimed he wanted to become the best “offensive rebounder” in the league. He told Domagala, “I’m trying to be the best offensive rebounder in the league. Be a double-double machine… I’m going for that double-double [average].”
With Mikal Bridges traded to the New York Knicks in the summer, the Brooklyn Nets will rely on their former star players. Apart from Dennis Schroder, Nic Claxton and Ben Simmons’ healthy return would boost the Nets’ roster in the 2024-25 season.
