The New York Knicks reunited Mikal Bridges with his former Villanova teammates by adding him to their roster. Despite it being good news for the swingman, when the news broke out, the situation became awkward yet funny, as revealed by Dorian Finney-Smith.
The forward revealed details of the moment with his ex-Brooklyn Nets teammate, Bridges. “We still kept training together the next two days after the trade happened,” spilled Finney-Smith. “We went from ‘what are we gonna do next year?’ to ‘we’re about to kick y’all’s a–. We gotta break that Villanova s–t up.’“
Though the situation wasn’t easy for them, both Bridges and Finney-Smith handled it with maturity. The pair started their Nets journey last year but couldn’t make the kind of impact that was expected of them.
The Brooklyn-based franchise finished in the 11th spot in the Eastern Conference table with a 32-50 record. Bridges contributed 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and a steal per game. Finney-Smith put up an average of 8.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists.
The two parted ways early; otherwise, they could’ve formed a great bond that might have helped the Nets.

“I got an ESPN alert. I probably learned after the trade,” stated the Bridges’ closest teammate, Johnson, at Summer League. The 28-year-old added, “I was probably the last to know. ESPN alert, that’s how I found out.”
Johnson was probably taken aback after learning about Bridges, considering their closeness since the 2019-20 season.
For now, Mikal Bridges could be the missing piece the Knicks sought. With him finally joining the New York troops, the franchise could weigh heavily on the other teams.
