In a recent episode of the show “Get Up” on ESPN, Brian Windhorst, Bobby Marks, and Zach Lowe joined Dan Graziano to discuss their expectations for Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers following the acquisition of Paul George in free agency. Windhorst made some debatable predictions regarding Sixers’ center Joel Embiid, suggesting that this season is not the only chance for the player to pursue a championship.
“I don’t agree that the pressure is on him now. I do agree that [the Sixers] have a window that’s going to be opening here with this new big three.” Windhorst said.
George’s five-year tenure with the Los Angeles Clippers ended when he signed a four-year, $212 million maximum deal with the Sixers, as reported by Wojnarowski. Despite missing multiple games in the 2023-24 season due to a lateral meniscus injury in his left knee, Embiid had an impressive season, averaging 34.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 5.6 assists in 39 games in 2023-24, according to StatMuse. He was also selected to play in his seventh All-Star game.
Windhorst Calls Out Overblown Paul George Hype
During a recent interview on First Take, Windhorst expressed frustration about the 76ers’ addition of George to the roster, criticizing the hype surrounding their strategy to dominate in the next season.
“This is the fourth time in about seven years that Paul George has been a headliner of an offseason move… The previous three have led to what? And that’s my point. I’m not sure. I certainly recognize that the 76ers are a formidable team… But I’m just, I’m tired of sitting here the first week of July and declaring that a Paul George arrival changes everything because I believe that with the Clippers. I thought that team was set up to dominate,” Windhorst said.
