Jimmy Butler is coming off a challenging season with the Miami Heat. Last season, Butler suffered a knee injury during the play-in tournament, which forced him to miss the first-round playoff series against the Boston Celtics. The Heat struggled without him and were eliminated in five games.
As Butler vies for a stunning comeback season, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst shared a positive note on the Miami star. Speaking on ‘NBA on ESPN,’ Windhorst expressed his belief in Butler’s intense mindset going into the new season.
“I’m basically saying buy (the Heat) because Jimmy Butler is going to—I think—be highly motivated,” Windhorst said.
“At times it seems like Jimmy looks for reasons not to play. And maybe that will be the prevailing situation, but I believe that Jimmy is going to be in killer mode to try to prove himself to the Heat and whoever else in the league,” he added.
Brian Windhorst Discusses Jimmy Butler’s Potential as a Free Agent
Jimmy Butler’s future with the Miami Heat remains uncertain as he has yet to sign a long-term contract extension with the team. The Heat star is reportedly looking to secure a maximum deal with the Heat or another team, which has sparked a trade speculation with other teams.
“Jimmy Butler [that’s] highly motivated to be a free agent. I think is a different animal,” Windhorst said.

Windhorst also touched on the challenges the Heat have faced in recent years, particularly with injuries. In addition to Butler’s contract situation, Windhorst expressed confusion over some of the Heat’s recent decisions, including the trade involving Terry Rozier.
“The Heat have had absolutely miserable health the last couple years. I still don’t exactly understand the Terry Rozier trade, giving up a first,” he added.
All eyes will be on Butler to see how his contract situation plays out and how it influences his performance on the court.
