Former Milwaukee Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer has been picked as Frank Vogel’s replacement and officially introduced as the new head coach of the Phoenix Suns. The 54-year-old coach has won 5 NBA championships, one as head coach and four as an assistant. In addition, he led the Bucks to the 2021 championship.
Budenholzer, an Arizona native, returns to his home team after missing the current season. He previously spent five years with the Bucks and Atlanta Hawks. He only missed one postseason in his previous ten NBA seasons, leading his teams to six division titles and four playoff appearances as the top seed.
During a press conference on Friday, the 54-year-old coach opened up about his new position and said he is excited about the opportunity. He also mentioned some weak points in the team and said that some roster improvements must be made.
“I’m excited about working with this roster and these players; we have great players. And with great players come great expectations. I think we embrace that.” Mike Budenholzer said.

“The conversations have been great, and there’s no doubt that we need to look at the whole roster and talk about point guard; I’m sure it’s a hot-button issue here, whether it’s with the media, players, or the front office. We need to think about it. We need to be able to play without one. And We probably need to be able to have one. We need to be versatile and play in different ways.” Budenholzer added.
Despite having great players like Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal on the roster, the Phoenix Suns were very disappointed during the first-round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves. They lost four straight games and were eliminated early from the series.
