You knew it was coming, and here it is. The NBA has handed out their punishments for Sunday’s fracas that unfolded at little Caesars Arena the game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Detroit Pistons.
By now you’ve probably seen all the footage, from LeBron James’ elbow to the face of Stewart, to the PIstons’ big man’s stampeded across the court as he trampled security guards just to get at the Lakers players.
Suspensions were inevitable, and on Tuesday, the league handed a few of them out. James was suspended one game for “recklessly hitting” Stewart. He will forfeit $284,000 in salary as a result. As for Stewart, he gets two games for “escalating an on-court altercation by repeatedly and aggressively pursuing” James during the melee. He loses $45,000 in salary as a result.
This is the first suspension of LeBron’s career. He was assessed a flagrant 2 foul during the game for his foul and was ejected as a result. He will now miss the Lakers’ Tuesday night battle with the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
