It appears as though the relationship between the Portland Trail Blazers and their superstar guard, Damian Lillard, may be beyond repair — so much so that the six-time all-star is expected to request a trade in the coming days.
According to True Hoop, Lillard is expected to demand his way out of Portland in the next couple of days. Among Lillard’s reasons for wanting out include concerns over the team’s chances of winning a championship, and his lack of involvement in their coaching search.
The Blazers fired head coach Terry Stotts after their first round loss in the NBA Playoffs. Lillard had endorsed Jason Kidd and Chauncey Billups as possible replacements, and after Kidd withdrew himself from consideration, the Blazers handed Billups the job — although the hiring has been highly scrutinized after sexual assault allegations against Billups from 1997 were brought to light.
If Lillard does in fact request a trade, you can bet there will be quite a few suitors lining up at the Trail Blazers’ doorstep.
