Huge news out of the NBA on Sunday.
It was reported that Kawhi Leonard has declined his $36M player option for next season and becomes a free agent.
Soon after that news, it was also reported that Chris Paul was declining his $44.2 million player option for the 2021-22 season and becoming an unrestricted free agent as well.
Kawhi is just weeks removed from surgery on his partially torn right ACL that ended his playoff run against the Suns. Leonard is eligible for a starting salary of 35% of the salary cap, or $39 million, which made the decision an easy one for one of the game’s most coveted players.
Leonard is now eligible for a contract worth as much as $175 million over the next four years.
