In June 2023, Bradley Beal, the former shooting guard for the Washington Wizards, joined the Phoenix Suns in exchange for the star player Chris Paul. During his debut season with the Suns in the 2023-24 NBA season, he helped lead the team to the playoffs. However, they were defeated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round.
Heading into the new season, the Suns had high hopes of clinching the championship. In the meantime, Beal shared the story of his trade to the Suns in a recent “Run Your Race” podcast interview.
“My transition to Phoenix was a complete 360. First off, Phoenix wasn’t even in the picture for me to go to. That was a fly ball that came out of nowhere. I’m waiting on Miami to hit me a grounder. Milwaukee, those were kind of like my two.” Beal said.
Beal revealed that he had been contemplating joining either the Miami Heat or the Milwaukee Bucks as his next team. The 31-year-old played 53 games during the last NBA season, averaging 18.2 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game.
Bradley Beal Moves Closer to Signing with Suns After Support from Durant and Booker
Beal mentioned that he was in New York with his wife in June of last year. Then, his agent approached him with a blockbuster deal from the Suns. The 31-year-old was fully focused on the Heat and the Bucks, but the new option shocked him. Beal, who received valuable advice from the Suns star, mentioned that he was curious how this deal would fit until he got surprising texts.
“Once I got the stamp from them two (Durant and Booker) and they were like let’s do this, we’re three hoopers that don’t care about nothing but hooping, I said ‘that’s where I want to be’. Can’t beat the weather – that was probably my icing on the cake,” Beal said.
