Bradley Beal kicked off his NBA career with the Washington Wizards in 2012-13. After spending over a decade with the team, his time in Washington came to an end following the 2022–23 season, when the Wizards traded him to the Phoenix Suns. In exchange for Beal, the Wizards acquired Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, the draft rights to Bilal Coulibaly, and several draft picks.
Beal recently opened up about his trade during an appearance on the Run Your Race podcast, where he shared some surprising insights about the Wizards’ front office and their decision to trade him. He reflected on how the team’s management didn’t hesitate to make the move after a change in leadership.
“The minute D.C. made that change in the front office, those boys ain’t waste no time. [They said], ‘Hey B, we think it’s time.’ When I heard that, I said, ‘That’s probably one of the most respectful things I’ve heard in 11 years,’” Beal said.
“I’m observing; I’m looking around the locker room and seeing like, ‘Is anybody else mad? I’m almost in tears; is anybody else mad?’ Man, no. When is the 1st and 15th?” he added.
