On Thursday night, the Celtics faced the Pacers in game 2 of their Eastern Conference Finals series. The Boston crowd was pumped to see their team take a resounding lead before hitting the road, but a fan took it to a different level.
Without the fans, the NBA could never be the NBA. The pandemic showed that when the championship was celebrated in the bubble. The roar of the crowd, the boos, the chants make the occasion extra special on an NBA playoff night, and sometimes it takes a broom too to make it something different.
A fan was spotted with a broom in hand during a feature on NBC, and since then, he has gone viral. Netizens identified him as a Celtics superfan with the account “CelticsGRD” on X (formerly known as Twitter). He was also seen sweeping the floor following the win, drawing parallels to the fans and the franchise’s intentions in the series.
The Celtics got the job done on the night with a dominant 126-110 win over the Pacers. Jaylen Brown again was the star of the show after his late heroics against the Indiana side in the previous game. His 40-point performance led the way for the Cs, but for Mazzulla, the series is far from a sweeping state.
Joe Mazzulla Reminds Celtics of Pacers’ Grit
Following the win, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla attended his media duties. In addition to praising Jaylen Brown, the 35-year-old told his team to remain focused on the task at hand.
“The only thing we should be thinking about is, they were down 2-0 a series and brought it to Game 7,” Mazzulla said. He added, “They do a great job protecting their home court. They’re undefeated at home. It’s going to take a lot more than confidence to get the job done.”

The Pacers were 2-0 down in the semifinals against the Knicks as well but responded brilliantly by winning all their games at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Rick Carlisle’s men hope to do the same again despite their worries over Tyrese Haliburton’s injury situation.
The next game will be played on Saturday, May 25, and the Pacers will look to avoid a deep 3-0 deficit.
