Kyrie Irving’s history with the Celtics added an extra layer to the game, but have the two franchises ever met in an NBA Finals?
Has Celtics ever faced Mavericks in NBA Finals?
If we look through the history of the NBA Finals, the Celtics have won the competition 17 times, and not on a single occasion were their opponents the Mavericks. Compared to Boston’s record-setting title haul, the Dallas side has only won the championship once, in 2011. Dirk Nowitzki-led Mavs beat the Miami Heat on that occasion, and this time, they’ll have the chance to do it with Luka Doncic.
While the two sides never met in the NBA Finals, they have met on 86 occasions in the regular season. The Cs have a 46-40 overall lead historically in the regular season, and they are on a current win streak of 4-0 against the Mavs.
While historically, the Celtics are in a favorable position going into the Finals, the occasion speaks for itself. The Mavs have enough firepower in their arsenal to get the better of the men in Green this time.
