A blockbuster trade deadline day proposal has the Boston Celtics stunning the NBA by sending reigning NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for another veteran superstar.
There’s no indication that the Celtics actually want to trade Jaylen Brown, who signed a five-year supermax extension worth $304 million two years ago before leading Boston to the NBA championship last season.
But as we saw in Sunday’s blockbuster Luka Doncic trade between the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks, nobody is untouchable. If a top-five player in the game can get traded before his 26th birthday, anyone can be moved.
Morten Stig Jensen of Yahoo Sports proposed a fascinating blockbuster trade idea that has Boston sending Brown to the Suns in exchange for Devin Booker in a one-for-one superstar swap:
“Let’s get nuts here and swap Devin Booker for Jaylen Brown, both of whom earn the exact same dollar amount, meaning a trade is actually possible.
What’s the logic? Well, for one, the Celtics get a more clean fit as Booker is a real two guard. As for Brown, he’s a wing who doesn’t overlap with Bradley Beal and offers a little defense and athleticism on the perimeter.
Does it make some Earth-shattering difference for either squad? Probably not, but since we now live in an NBA world where nothing is predictable, why the heck not?”

Phoenix’s ugly 140-109 blowout loss at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night dropped them back to the .500 mark (25-25). The Booker, Bradley Beal and Kevin Durant core isn’t working, and it’ll take a blockbuster trade of epic proportions by GM James Jones to save the season.

If you’re Phoenix, you couldn’t define “blockbuster” much better than swapping out Booker for Brown. The latter is a proven playoff performer with championship experience and could bring the change the Suns need to re-emerge as a title contender.
Jaylen Brown Is Having Another All-Star Season
Brown just earned the fourth All-Star nod of his career, and deservedly so. The 28-year-old and Jayson Tatum continue to do the heavy lifting for the defending champs, with the former averaging 23.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.
Trading Brown and breaking up a star-studded core would be a giant risk by president of basketball operations Brad Stevens. But hey, trading for Kristaps Porziņģis and moving out Marcus Smart was also deemed risky, and we saw how that played out.
