The Boston Celtics’ prolific offense has been shattering several NBA records this season. However, the Celtics created some NBA history on Tuesday night even though their offense did not perform.
No Boston Celtics player acquired a chance to the free throw line during the team’s 104-91 defeat in Milwaukee, per Statmuse. However, Jayson Tatum (37 minutes) and Jaylen Brown (36 minutes) saw much action. Currently, the Celtics are the first NBA team to play a whole game without shooting a single free throw.
The three referees for the game, Marc Davis, Bent Taylor, and Danielle Scott, called only 12 fouls, totaling eight on the Boston Celtics and four on Milwaukee. It was a really easy night for them. It was a really easy night for them. The only player to reach the line late in the first quarter was Giannis Antetkounmpo, who converted one of his two free throws of the game.
However, Tuesday night’s charity stripe action came to an end there. The two teams’ free throws also created a new NBA record. On Nov. 10, 2019, the Magic-Pacers game set a prior record for the lowest combined free throw attempts, with 11. Before that, the single-team record was shared by the Hawks and Grizzlies, who each attempted just one free throw each game.
Boston Celtics Are Preparing Themselves Ahead of the Playoffs
Boston Celtics didn’t put up their best effort on Tuesday because, this late in the regular season, everything was already set up for them. 52 of the team’s 93 shots came from downtown as they employed a straightforward offensive scheme. Brown had nine attempts from beneath the basket compared to Tatum’s five, but only one crossed the line.
About the team’s exceptional record, Tatum remarked, “Maybe just gearing up for the playoffs? They let a lot of things go. I guess [the officials] are just getting us ready for playoff basketball.”

For the Boston Celtics, at least, the unpleasant night ended quite soon. The game on Tuesday night ended at 1:57, clocking in under two hours without any of that stoppage at the charity stripe.
