Brooklyn Nets star Ben Simmons is on the road to recovery after undergoing microscopic partial discectomy surgery this year for a severe injury. Since joining the Nets, Simmons has faced a challenging journey filled with injury setbacks, leading some fans to accuse him of “robbing” the team of its investment.
During a recent interview with Brian Lewis of the New York Post, Simmons addressed his critics directly. He claimed that the comments about him “robbing” the Nets were unfair and disrespectful.
“People make comments saying I’m robbing. No. When I got that contract, I was playing at a super high level. Unfortunately, I had injuries. But for somebody to say that, it’s disrespectful. [But] people can say what they want to say. They’ve got to live with it. At the end of the day, it all catches up with you,” Simmons said.
Simmons is entering the final season of a five-year, $177.2 million contract he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers back in 2019. This season, Simmons, who wants everyone to know his value, is set to earn $40.3 million.
Ben Simmons Makes Comeback With Brooklyn Nets In Preseason Opener
Ben Simmons is making his way back into the spotlight as he returns to the court with the Nets. After playing just 57 games across two seasons with the team, Simmons made his comeback in the preseason opener against the Los Angeles Clippers. Despite his return ending in a 115-106 defeat for the Nets, Simmons is optimistic about the future.
“I’m excited to build with these guys. It’s a fresh start for us, especially with younger players on the team. While we’re still figuring things out, I look forward to the process,” Simmons said in a post-game interview with Athletic.
