Even with Kyrie Irving’s season in flux, the Brooklyn Nets still enter the 2021-22 NBA season as a top contender to take home the title. Such is like when you have Kevin Durant and James Harden on your roster.
With high expectations like the Nets have coming into the year, you’d think they’d have no problem filling the Barclays Center for their home opener. And yet, there they were, just minutes before tipoff against the Hornets earlier today, and the seats were empty.
As the first tweet suggests, there are a couple reasons why this could have happened. For starters, fans often show up late at Barclays — although, as the tweet also suggests, you’d think that wouldn’t be the case for the home opener.
It’s also football Sunday. And then, there’s the Kyrie protests outside, which seem like something that might delay actual people with tickets from getting into the building.
