The courtside seats in the NBA games are often filled with faces from the glam world or celebs from other sports. Patrick Mahomes is one such name who has been sighted multiple times in the NBA arenas following his Super Bowl glory.
Mahomes was again seen in the front row with his wife, Brittany by his side during game 3 of the playoff series between the Dallas Mavericks and the OKC Thunder. During the broadcast, commentator Dave Pasch said, “Patrick Mahomes, unsolicited, just turned to Hubie [Brown] and I and said Lu Dort could play in the NFL.”
The Chiefs QB was seemingly impressed with OKC’s Canadian forward who certainly has the physical traits to survive in the NFL. Though OKC fell to the Mavs 104-101 on Saturday, Mahomes’ comment only bolstered Austin Rivers’ controversial comments about NBA players making it in the NFL and not the other way around.
While many former NFL personalities have blasted the former NBA guard for his take, Patrick Mahomes’ nod to Lu Dort certainly provides some much-needed oxygen to Rivers. The 3-time Super Bowl winner himself has a history of playing basketball and a what-if scenario about his alternative career inevitably comes to mind.
Can Patrick Mahomes Switch to NBA?
Patrick Mahomes has solidified his name as one of the best quarterbacks of all time in his relatively short career, but football isn’t the only thing he’s good at. Mahomes was seen swinging a golf club for charity, and hooping is also one of his hidden talents.
Mahomes was a football, baseball and basketball athlete during his high school days at Whitehouse High School. As a high school senior, Mahomes was named All-East Texas MVP in basketball. The 28-year-old also credited his basketball skills for his success as an NFL QB.

Earlier this year, during the Super Bowl opening night, he was asked who he’d be like if he played basketball. Mahomes answered, “If I played basketball, I’d be just like Steph Curry. I got the shot. I just got to get a couple extra reps (and) a couple shots up. I’d be shooting just like him. That’s who I’d be.”
Mahomes’ confidence about matching Curry’s shooting prowess can be questioned but physique-wise both are similar with both of them having a recorded height of 6’2″.
But playing in the NBA isn’t a cakewalk, even if you’re Patrick Mahomes. He might be a multiple time ring NBA ring winner in an alternate universe but for our ones, he’ll just have to be content with his Superbowl rings.
