It is becoming increasingly common for NBA players to point out fans behaving badly and getting them ejected from the game.
This week, Austin Rivers had a couple fans ejected from their seats after he claims the “punks” and “clowns” would not stop heckling him about his family.
In the fourth quarter of Denver’s loss to the Thunder, Rivers could be seen grabbing a ref and directing him to get two fans ejected from the game.
Austin explained the situation after the loss when he claimed the fans kept trash talking Doc Rivers, mentioning his sister, Callie Rivers, who is married to Steph Curry’s brother, Seth Curry.
“I don’t mind it most nights,” a clearly ticked-off Austin said. “But, it was constant. Every time down the floor, they were saying something about my dad. Somebody said something about my sister. That’s when I was like, ‘OK. I’ve had enough.'”
Austin continued, “You could say I suck, that’s fair game. But, you talk about my family? Like, what are we doing here?”

“Imagine me showing up to where they work and I’m just talkin’ s*** about their family the whole time while they’re trying to work. I don’t know. It’s just weird, man. Bunch of punks.”
Rivers made it clear that he believe those fans would have never said those things to him face-to-face on the street.
“I don’t want to be portrayed or try to make myself sound like I’m some tough guy … None of those dudes would ever talk to me like that if I wasn’t on the basketball court,” he said. “I don’t like people like that. Keep the same energy all the time. … You could talk trash, you could say ‘I suck,’ all that, that’s fair game. You’re talking about my family, like, what are we doing here? Imagine me showing up to where they work, and I’m just talking (crap) about their family the whole time, like while they’re trying to work. … A bunch of punks. I’m glad the refs threw them out otherwise, that’s where you get into a situation where I go over there and then it’s different.”
NBA players have been kicking out fans since LeBron went viral doing it in Indiana a few weeks ago.
