Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves faced a tough loss against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night. After the loss, Edwards couldn’t hold his frustration back and went on about the NBA officials, accusing them of poor judgment throughout the match.
After Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert got fined for showing a money gesture to a referee during their previous matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Anthony Edwards might just be the next Timberwolves player to be fined for the same misconduct.
Anthony Edwards discusses Lakers-Timberwolves free throw issues
In the post-game interview, Edwards highlighted the free-throw difference between both teams and how the Lakers are getting all the foul calls while the Timberwolves aren’t.
Edwards said, “It’s tough every night, you know, when we don’t get to the free-throw line as much as the other team. When one player shoots more free throws than your entire team, it’s tough. It’s tough to compete. In the fourth quarter, when you miss a shot and they go to the free-throw line every time down the floor… It’s tough, man. I tip my hat to my teammates, my coaches, we just have to go out there and fight every night.“
Edwards also mentioned that with fewer foul calls on their side, while the opposition is getting tons of them, it takes a toll on the mentality of a player and hence affects both the offence and defence in a game.

Edwards’s performance against the Lakers in numbers
Anthony Edwards put up a team-high 25 points with 7 assists and 7 rebounds for the Timberwolves in 40 minutes of action. He was shooting 43.4% (10-23 field goals) and just 22.2% (2-9 field goals) from beyond the arc. He also had a couple of blocks and steals. Edwards’ performance was not up to par, as he was performing below his season average.
Without Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert, who are two of the league’s best centers, Edwards failed to step up and live up to the expectations of carrying a franchise when he is considered to be the league’s face for the upcoming seasons.
Despite battling through an ankle injury, Anthony Edwards fought hard for his team but failed to deliver an elite performance against the terrific duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who put up monster numbers during the matchup.
